POSITION OVERVIEW

HISTORY: From Nest to Wings is an organization that grew out of parents' and students' desire to know more about the college search process. From Nest to Wings began as a project of Chapter II Colorado, P.E.O and grew enough that in 2018 it became a separate, stand-alone non-profit organization with a Board of Directors working to build financing and program provision structures. Today, From Nest to Wings provides strong educational support to students and families and is committed to welcoming and supporting all students and families. It is the position of From Nest to Wings that any educational opportunity after college is important. The term college is used to categorize post-high school education.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION: The job responsibilities for the Executive Director are outlined in the position job description. Nest to Wings is primed for growth, accepting of new ideas, and ready to move forward using our established educational programs to meet the mission. Our finances are solid enough to offer room for creativity and growth.

The Executive Director does not need to have extensive experience in high school or college education as there is a volunteer staff to head the programming portion of Nest services. Such knowledge would be helpful but not necessary to be successful in the position.

The Executive Director position will offer the opportunity to bring personality, ideas, and energy to an organization that values such. There is a great deal of room to gain non-profit experience while building Nest into an even healthier and more productive entity.

REMUNERATION: While there is currently no funding for the Executive Director position, the Board of Directors is open to providing financial compensation to the position if the organization's fundraising efforts grow to a level that supports staff payments.

STAFFING/VOLUNTEERS: To this day, all From Nest to Wings staff members are a group of energetic volunteers working hard publishing the monthly newsletter, coordinating fundraising, managing logistics, recording and tracking our finances, and developing and providing educational resources to meet our mission. Job responsibilities are outlined for the various positions in our organization. The only payments made by Nest to individuals are for specific skills related to our video program. Nest is always open to welcoming new volunteers of all ages, genders, races, orientations, and skillsets. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to recruit, select, evaluate, and remove any staff members who are not meeting expectations.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITMENT: The Nondiscrimination Policy of From Nest to Wings is posted on our website. The Nest staff and Board members are committed to bringing various backgrounds, experiences, identities, communities, and viewpoints to our staff, programming, and outlook on all of the services we offer.

SERVICES OFFERED: From Nest to Wings provides

  1. A monthly newsletter on topics and calendar items essential to the college search. Sign-up to receive the newsletter can be made through the Nest website.
  2. Written materials to help students and families better understand the college search, financing college, and application processes. These documents are available on the Nest website.
  3. In-person conferences and classes to allow students and parents to learn from subject matter experts and each other.
  4. Short subject videos are posted weekly on our YouTube channel and our website. The videos highlight subject matter helpful to high school students working to transition to, and successfully complete, college and their parents.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS: The ED position reports to and assists the Board of Directors. These individuals work to provide consistency to the organization, act as a sounding board, guardrails to keep the organization within non-profit organization best practices, and as public representatives to their communities. Our Board of Directors works to provide energy, oversight, and ideas to the staff.

Mission Statement

From Nest to Wings provides tools and trusted resources to all high school students, parents and guardians as they navigate the transition to post high school educational opportunities.

Description

From Nest to Wings provides workshops and conferences designed to help high school students and their parents prepare for the college, community college, trade school, and university search, application and first year experience. We work with area high schools to compliment the strong work they do to help students plan their future. Our programming fills in the blanks and targets parents as well as students. We are working to develop online resources to support our classroom experiences and our monthly newsletter. Our programming is strong and our program evaluations reflect a true appreciation for our work.

From Nest to Wings has been in existence for 8 years. Our first seven years we were a program within another community organization. For the past year, we have been a stand-alone 501 (c) (3) organization. Our last year has had a binary focus, first on our programming and second in establishing a Board of Directors, organization structure, job descriptions, and goals for the future.
