Do you like meeting new people? Intake Volunteers greet clients and help ensure they have all the needed information to file their income taxes. Volunteers work in our office on busy Income Tax appointment days and Tax-a-Thons.

All training is provided by Benefits in Action or our affiliates.

Onboarding and Training Requirements:
  • Volunteer Orientation (2 hours)
  • Background Screening

Time Commitment:
Volunteers are asked to commit to 3-4 hours weekly during the tax season (Jan-April). Post-season opportunities may be available.

Description

Benefits in Action is a nonprofit organization located in Lakewood, Colorado that serves individuals throughout the state. We strive to increase understanding, access, and utilization of healthcare resources. Our team of navigators (staff and volunteers) works with individuals to help them recognize the health-related benefits they qualify for, apply to those benefits, and utilize them as effectively as possible. We are passionate about the importance of increasing healthcare benefit literacy among the public. Accordingly, we organize and hold educational sessions in public facilities aimed at increasing individual understanding and self-efficacy in navigating the healthcare system. In addition to benefit navigation, we also provide tax preparation, mental wellness support, and food delivery (in the Denver-metro area).

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • Volunteers work one 4 hour shift per week for approximately 10 weeks. Available shifts are Tuesdays or Thursdays from 3:00-7:00 or Friday or Saturday shifts are available from 10:00-2:00pm.
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking skills preferred. Prior experience with tax preparation a plus.
