Calling all Veterans! Veteran volunteers needed to provide comfort and companionship to Veteran hospice patients. Specific support needed that only someone who has "been there, done that" can provide. Sit bedside with Veteran hospice patients, reminisce, and provide a comforting presence. Veterans also needed to present "We Honor Veterans" certificates at end of life. Flexible days/times - we work with your schedule! Can be a one time presentation or provide ongoing companionship support.

Hospice care at UnityPoint is a coordinated care approach between a medical director, physician, nurse and others who all work together to provide the right plan of care to improve the quality of life for the patient. The hospice team is supportive in every way necessary to honor the wishes of the patient. Hospice is not about giving up hope; it is about doing everything possible to live life to its full capacity.
UnityPoint Hospice volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice care team. Volunteers can provide direct and indirect patient support. Direct support includes: bedside companionship, respite care for the family, patient life review, supportive phone calls, letter writing to the patient, hand massage, listening to music, playing a musical instrument, pet therapy. Indirect support includes: running errands, greeting and screening visitors at Taylor House, administrative tasks, answering phones, etc. We work with each volunteer to help determine the right fit and area in which to help.
We'll work with your schedule.
