The Nature Connection’s mission is to improve the wellbeing of individuals and communities through the therapeutic use of nature. Founded in 1983 and bas ed out of Concord, Massachusetts, The Nature Connection provides accessible, therapeutic nature-based programing for those with limited or restricted access to the outdoors ( youth at-risk, children and adults with disabilities, and elders (including those with dementia/Alzheimer’s) ) of Middlesex County . The Nature Connection supports the wellbeing of individuals and communities by providing access to the many benefits of nature through interactions with plants, animals, and natural materials.
The Nature Connection is looking for a Spanish T ranslation V olunteer that can dedicate 1- 2 hours a week for 3+ months to help us translate our outreach and program materials into Spanish in order to reach a broader and more diverse audience. All organizational outreach/material strives to be accessible and embody the values of diversity, inclusivity and acceptance while promoting human, animal, and environmental well-being.
Specifically, we are looking for assistance in translating The Nature Connection’s TWIG (Touch, Wonder, Investigate, Grow) initiative . TWIG is a collection of activit y write-ups that make nature available to people with unique abilities or situations that limit their access to the outdoors. The goal of TWIG is to share our unique, therapeutic methodology (especially in these times of physical/social distancing) with healthcare & social work professionals, educators, family, and friends to provide them the tools to engage those they love and care for with nature.
As of December 2020, The Nature Connection has created 16 TWIG activities and , are continuing to create an additional 1-2 new activities per month. This position requires more than using a translator app, as we want to ensure our materials are coherent and grammatically correct . The ideal volunteer will have experience with Microsoft Word and be fluent in Spanish (vocabulary , spelling, and grammar) . Hav ing k nowledge of science/nature Spanish vocabulary is helpful and experience with Offi ce 365/Google Suite is not required (though a willingness to learn is!) .
The Spanish Translation Volunteer will be supervised by, and report directly to the Program Director (unless otherwise specified) . This is a remote volunteer opportunity (during and after COVID-19 , though after COVID-19 has in-person possibilities ). This is not a paid position.
