La Romita School of Art

Volunteer Position Description - Fundraising Leader

To inspire individual creativity and artistic expression through workshops in Italy, cultural exchange, and appreciation of the arts.

Project or position: Fundraising Leader

This position will bring new skills and abilities to the La Romita School of Art (LRSA) leadership team. The overall purpose is to develop and help implement a LRSA fundraising plan to generate a reliable stream of extra-programmatic funds for operation and student support. This includes developing a fundraising plan that addresses the possibility of grants, donations, campaigns, corporate sponsorships, and fund-raising events (such as online auction of art) to create a portfolio of potential activities with significant potential for success. This high-level position requires close collaboration with the Finance, Marketing/Communications, and Operations Committees to identify objectives and resource requirements and may ultimately lead to recruiting more volunteers for specific fund-raising functional support.

Tasks:

  • Assess current fundraising efforts, systems, databases, and potential
  • Coordinate with ED, Marketing/Communication, and Finance Committees to identify specific fundraising needs, opportunities, and gaps.
  • Identify necessary LRSA investment (both money and additional volunteer hours) in fundraising effort
  • Coordinate with the bookkeeper and accountant to ensure reporting compliance
  • Write an overall fundraising plan that addresses both near-term and longer term requirements
  • Create a calendar to coordinate tasks and activities with other LRSA schedules throughout the year
  • Help craft the LRSA message and marketing material for all media, especially online and social media
  • In the immediate term, identify and pursue fundraising opportunities to potentially include writing grants, connecting with potential donors, and mounting campaigns
  • Periodically present findings to the board and facilitate board-level discussion of LRSA fundraising
  • Advise and train Board Members and the Executive Director on fundraising processes and techniques

Skills required:

  • Previous experience developing and implementing fundraising plans for non-profits. Experience with the arts preferred.
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision
  • Strong communication skills, especially writing
  • Mastery of current and emerging social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, and Instagram.
  • Familiarity with database management
  • Confidence to task board members and the ED when required to implement fundraising activities

Setting:

  • Work from anywhere with internet connection.

Schedule and time commitment:

  • This position will become a permanent part of LRSA operations.
  • Time requirement will vary depending on intensity of specific requirements, but will average approximately 2 hours/week.
  • We hope to have an improved fundraising capability beginning in the 2021 season.

Training:

  • None required beyond initial orientation to LRSA

Supervision:

  • This position will report to and coordinate through the Executive Director.
