Chapter Communications Director

Responsible for implementing ChickTech’s national marketing and outreach campaigns through chapter communications channels, crafting and implementing digital content to boost ChickTech’s brand awareness in the local community, and collaborating with other marketing volunteers on a local and national basis through the ChickTech Marketing Committee.

ChickTech is a national nonprofit dedicated to retaining womxn (female-identifying, non-binary and transgender women) in the technology workforce and increasing the number of womxn pursuing technology-based careers through signature programs for K-12 students and career level adults. The overarching goal of ChickTech is to increase diversity and inclusion within the technology culture through broadening the pipeline of underrepresented populations entering careers through non-traditional pathways, and increasing retention of these populations through a supportive community focused on enhancing career, leadership, inclusion, and engagement within and beyond the workplace. By building and enhancing an intergenerational community, ChickTech is ensuring companies can find untapped talent from diverse communities across the country while also building skills and interest for future generations to excel and create a diverse tech workforce.

We are looking for a Communications Director for the local chapter of ChickTech. The Communications Director is a marketing position, liaising directly with the Chapter Director and ChickTech’s National Marketing Manager. The Communications Director is responsible for implementing ChickTech’s national marketing and outreach campaigns through chapter communications channels, crafting and implementing digital content to boost ChickTech’s brand awareness in the local community, and collaborating with other marketing volunteers on a local and national basis through the ChickTech Marketing Committee.

The perfect candidate for the Communications Director is charismatic, creative, responsible, and detail oriented. Has previous experience with email marketing and social media, digital advertising, and communications; and has a passion for empowering women.

Note: This is an unpaid volunteer position with options to work remotely.

Our ideal Chapter Communications Director candidate will have:

  • Keen interest in and experience with marketing, communications, social media, blogging/writing, and/or marketing analytics
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Commitment to keeping up with social trends and ability to leverage viral opportunities
  • Experience with either nonprofits and/or the tech field
  • The ability to work in a collaborative style
  • Proficiency with social media management platform Hootsuite
  • Experience with creating graphics for social media and/or using Canva
  • Experience with email marketing platform Mailchimp, including audience/list management
  • Positive attitude, attention to detail, and good organizational ability
  • Fluency in English (proficiency in multiple languages is an added bonus!)
  • Passion for ChickTech's mission to empower womxn and girls in technology

Key Chapter Communications Director responsibilities include:

  • Creating content for digital channels on behalf of ChickTech that showcases opinions, responds to emerging events, and supports our mission
  • Writing, curating, and sourcing regular content for social media that responds to industry trends and showcases ChickTech’s mission
  • Attending quarterly organization-wide Marketing Committee meetings
  • Serving as a liaison to the chapter and its community for ChickTech’s national marketing campaigns and outreach

Expected time commitment: 5-10 hours/week, but this may vary. We ask that all leadership team members commit to one year of being on the team if possible, although less can be negotiated! Please be honest about your time commitments, while we realize it is difficult to forecast what you may be doing four or five months out, we ask potential leadership team members to try their best to upfront with any conflicts, either work or personal. ChickTech is a multi-generational community helping each other become technology creators. We facilitate hands-on technology-centric events and mentorship to empower, support, and increase the confidence of girls, women, and non-binary folks. Through our programs, we build community, empower participants to see themselves as leaders, and provide networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing tech industry.

As a mostly volunteer-run non-profit, we are always searching for partners who would like to get involved through donations of expertise, volunteer time, in-kind, funding, or just by helping to get the word out.
