Nonprofit looking for a Volunteer Program Assistant! VPA must be a self-starter and able to work independently. The nonprofit works in suicide prevention and mental health awareness. The target audience is youth ages 5-18, however, we service adults as needed. Tasks for the volunteer intern include:

  • Brainstorming event ideas to present in the community
  • Contact and plan workshops for youth in schools, libraries, or churches, etc.
  • Draft emails and make phone calls
  • Plan lessons for workshops
  • Assist in marketing the nonprofit, it’s events, workshops, and services to the community

An ideal VPA will be a college student majoring in the human services field seeking community service hours. The VPA should be able to commit to approximately 5 hours to the nonprofit weekly. The hours will start on the low end as work is being established. There will be a 1-2 hour meeting weekly with the founder and the rest of the work will be done at the VPA’s convenience as long as deadlines are met. This is a very flexible opportunity!

Mission Statement

Another Chance focuses on youth because often times the struggles of young people are overlooked or seen as insignificant when in fact they to suffer from mental illness. Additionally, with the stigma attached to mental illness, youth, and adults alike, are ashamed to reach to healthcare professionals for assistance.

Description

Another Chance Youth Mentoring is a community-based organization that provides support to youth and young adults who are at-risk for suicide. ACYM’s goal is to reduce the stigma on mental health by creating a more inviting community that allows individuals to have the courage to ask for help. Ultimately, ACYM wants to reduce the number of suicides amongst all ages. ACYM targets adolescents, teens, and young adults, but does not turn away any individual in need of support no matter the age, race, gender, or religion. ACYM does not turn individuals away because the greatest demographic effected by suicide is the middle-aged, white male. ACYM provides prevention and postvention support to individuals and families who have been effected by suicide.
