GJ - Alleviating Hunger & Food Waste focuses on the delivery of unsold, excess food from food providers to food storage locations. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a lot of stress and pressure being put on households who unfortunately do not have regular income to obtain food supplies on a daily and weekly basis.

By delivering food to food pantries and food banks, we are providing a weekly supply of food to hundreds of individuals.

Our food collections are done based on the location of the volunteer as well as the food providers in proximity to the volunteer's location. For example, if a volunteer is in Novi, Michigan, we will find food provider locations in Novi, and if the volunteer is in West Bloomfield, Michigan, we will find locations in West Bloomfield. At the end of the day, our model is to maximize efficiency and minimize costs (travel, time, and energy) for the volunteer.

Programs/Achievements:

As of now, GJ - Alleviating Hunger & Food Waste is working with three food providers, two Panera locations (6 Mile Rd, Livonia & Haggerty Rd, Livonia) and Dunkin' (Plymouth, MI). We are also working with the Salvation Army (Farmington, MI) and Auntie Na's Village (Detroit, MI).

Update as of December 17th, 2020: Since we started our volunteer operations in June 2020, we have been able to transport more than 1165 pounds of bread and 240 dozen donuts to our respective food storage partners!

In addition , we have also been featured in the University of Toledo's Article as well: http://news.utoledo.edu/index.php/11_04_2020/bioengineering-student-creates-nonprofit-to-reduce-waste-and-provide-food-to-people-in-need

Our work continues every day, and we are determined to work with as many food provider locations and food storage areas as possible not only in Michigan but also throughout the country and internationally.
