Do you have any background, knowledge and a love of gardening?
Our Therapeutic Recreation Department has a Horticulture Group program on Friday's at 1:00-3:00. It would be helpful to come prior to group and stay after group for any prep and clean up needs.
We have a greenhouse right on our hospital grounds! We are always open to all ideas for new projects to work on with the patients. The Therapeutic Recreation Department staff and volunteers assist patients as needed so they can participate to their best of their ability.
We are looking for individuals who are motivated from their heart to help others and are willing to be committed to volunteering. Volunteers generally give two-three hours once a week.
We are looking for individuals who have knowledge/background and skilled in Gardening/Horticulture, as well as interested in Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services or gaining experience in the healthcare field.

Description
Hospital for Special Care is a private, not-for-profit, 228 bed Long-Term, Acute-Care hospital licensed by the state of CT. as a chronic disease hospital. The hospital is renowned for its expertise in physical rehabilitation, respiratory care and medically-complex pediatrics. In addition, special programs are available in the treatment of spinal cord injuries and illness, acquired brain injuries, strokes and breathing disorders.
We also provide a full range of outpatient services, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, rehabilitation evaluation, neuropsychology and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. The hospital also includes a 27,000 foot Aquatic Rehabilitation Center, which completes the full spectrum of rehabilitation and community fitness activities offered.
We also have a 28 bed satellite facility located within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. The satellite serves patients who are medically or surgically complex and/or require specialized care.
