ORGANIZATION: ROBOTICS FOR ALL

Overview of Mentoring for All

Mentoring for All is a program founded to close the educational opportunity gap by providing low-income students with guidance and resources to achieve high school success and college readiness. Our program pairs high school students with college students to provide mentoring about the path to college. In addition to our flexible one-on-one mentoring curriculum, we will provide supplemental activities, including workshops, panels, and Q&A sessions from Professional Partners.

Overview of Position

Professional partners are a vital component of Mentoring for All’s goal of providing valuable resources to under-served students. Professional Partners will share their knowledge and expertise with us by creating blog posts or pre-recorded videos to share advice for success and/or insight about careers in their field. All volunteer opportunities for Professional Partners are currently remote and asynchronous.

Tasks

Professional Partners will have a wide range of options for sharing their expertise with students, including:

  • Record a video discussing careers and opportunities in your industry
  • Record a TED-talk style video providing advice for student success
  • Write a blog post with guidance or insight for our students
  • This is an opportunity to share your knowledge and experience as creatively as you desire! We will work with you to create high quality, informative content for our students.

Time Commitment

Your time commitment with MFA is very flexible, and we would appreciate as much or as little time you can contribute to creating content that provides advice and guidance for high school students. If you are looking for a long-term volunteer opportunity beyond a single video/blog post, we would be excited to have you speak to our students remotely in a Q&A session, panel, or workshop during the 2021/2022 school year.

Benefits

The benefit of becoming a Professional Partner with Mentoring for All is the satisfaction of knowing that you are positively impacting the lives and future of under-served students across the United States.

Requirements

We are looking for professionals in any field who would have the ability to provide written or spoken guidance for high school students about their industry, or about general strategies for success.

About ROBOTICS FOR ALL

Location:

P.O. Box 56, PALO ALTO, CA 94302, US

Mission Statement

Mission: Robotics for All aims to inspire the next generation of students and volunteers to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background. Robotics for All strives to provide equitable educational opportunities to students of all backgrounds, particularly low income and under-represented students, with an emphasis on teaching the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The goal is to reduce the opportunity gap, allowing students to gain beneficial skills for the rest of their academic and professional careers. We believe that it is important for students to have access to a quality STEM education, regardless of socio-economic status.

Description

Founded in April 2017 and officially incorporated in July 2018, Robotics for All aims to bridge close the opportunity gap by providing equitable educational opportunities to students of all backgrounds, particularly underrepresented and underserved students. Our organization previously only provided in-person classes. In July 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we transitioned our program to an online setting and experienced breakneck growth. In just 5 months, we taught the same number of students as we did in our first 3 years of operations. Our current online classes are for K-8 grader and teach a variety of platforms including Code.org, Scratch, and Python.

Robotics for All is volunteer-based, with currently over 100 volunteers at the time of writing. Our volunteers hail from dozens of states across the United States and several other countries. We encourage you to apply to join our growing community of volunteers.
