The Community Literature Initiative (CLI) is seeking an Assistant Booking Agent to be a part of the Talent Booking team. In this role, you will be responsible for scouting, establishing contact, and maintaining relationships with local artists, poets, authors, and other professionals. From there, you will schedule and coordinate with the professionals to be guest lecturers and guest speakers at our CLI programs and courses.
You will, in partnership with the Booking Manager, play a key role in deciding and shaping the unique and engaging experiences of our CLI program attendees and students.
Duties and responsibilities
- Research and contact institutions, organizations, and individuals to perform guest lectures and workshops for the Publishing Class program and World Stage Press
- Organize and create performance contracts and itineraries for guest lectures
- Identify potential gigs and event venues to establish professional relationships with in the Los Angeles area
- Update and manage the events calendar with upcoming literary events, guest lecturers, and performances
- Maintain polite and professional communication via phone and email
- Assist with ad hoc booking and talent coordination projects
Preferred qualifications
The ideal candidate possesses the following:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, G Suite, Asana, and ability to learn additional software programs
- Highly organized, customer-oriented, and strong work ethic
- Excellent communication skills and command over verbal and written skills
- Interest in any of the following: poetry, creative writing, nonprofit, talent management

Description
The Community Literature Initiative is a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization focused on teaching writers in the city how to create poetry and fiction of a publishable quality. The CLI course is a 10-month (September to June) training program to refine works-in-progress into finalized manuscripts ready for publication. At the conclusion of the 10-month program, all participants are guaranteed a first-book publishing contract with one of our partnering Los Angeles Small Presses. At the conclusion of our program, all students emerge knowledgeable published authors! In addition to offering these courses, CLI staff & students teach free creative writing courses in local high schools.
