ORGANIZATION: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc

About us

At Catholic Charities, our vision is to improve the lives of those we serve, to empower the most vulnerable, and to help reduce poverty through quality, compassionate, and effective human services.

Our Refugee and Immigration Services develop programs, in partnership with refugee and immigrant communities, to promote social bridges and bonds, develop desired skills and cultural knowledge, and encourage US citizenship. Participants work to build the real-life knowledge, attitudes, and skills that they need to achieve success. When we accomplish this, lives are transformed and the benefits to the community can be exponential starting by improving the quality of life one person at a time.

We could not do what we do without the help of our volunteers!

In partnership with Zablocki School (K-5) and Boys & Girls club, Catholic Charities will be implementing an after school tutoring program to provide additional homework help and support to students of refugee and immigrant backgrounds.

While students are thriving, parents and teachers have expressed an interest in having volunteers work individually with students (one on one or two on one) to establish an after school homework routine, receive guidance, and help student(s) to improve their problem-solving skills.

Both volunteers and learners will create positive relationships and participate in cultural exchanges, which facilitate integration for both groups. Each volunteer will be asked to tutor 1-2 students during their shift.

Am I qualified?

After School Tutor(s) must have previous experience in tutoring, teaching, working with children, or working with English Language Learners. This could be as a dedicated teacher, trainer or tutor.

Volunteers should be familiar with navigating the U.S. school system and providing guidance to youth.

Schedule:

2:30-3:30 pm on a weekday(s) of their choosing

Thank you for your interest in this program. Any volunteers that apply for this program in 2020, will begin the process in January 2021.
