This is an opportunity to join the Board of Directors of Plugged In Band, a youth oriented music program based in Needham, MA focused on inclusion and collaboration as band members. We are looking for board members to help provide strategic direction for the program as we grow and adapt our programing to meet the needs of our community.
Our Purpose
- Plugged In is a non-profit program for students (ages 10-18) that teaches kids how to be in a rock band and, more importantly, about the importance of giving back to the community.
- We stage multiple benefit concerts where all the students vote to choose the organization for which the concert will raise money.
- Plugged In is about bringing young people together through music, teaching them the importance of using their music to make positive change in the world, and helping them gain self-confidence.
- Our goal with Plugged In is to have the charitable aspect of the program be so meaningful for our students that they will continue using their music to help others throughout their lives.
- PLUGGED IN VALUES: Fundamental to everything we do are our core values.
- PHILANTHROPY AND GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY ARE FUNDAMENTAL TO THE PROGRAM: Not only do we have concerts that benefit charities chosen by the students, we offer a variety of community service opportunities for our students.
- PLUGGED IN IS INCLUSIVE IN ALL WAYS We respect and embrace differences. We encourage students to express themselves freely through their music. No one will be turned away. We welcome all instruments and musicians of all experience levels and abilities including those with special needs. We do not limit the number of students we enroll in band classes and, through our Inclusion Fund, we offer scholarships to those who cannot afford the tuition.
- THERE IS NO HIERARCHY - EVERYONE IS EQUAL: We try to avoid the rules, competition and pressures students experience at school. There are no band leaders and all bands perform in a noncompetitive environment. Everyone is valued equally for their contributions.

Plugged In is a non-profit music program committed to creating an inclusive, loving, and diverse community empowered to change the world. We educate musicians in a non-competitive environment, and provide band and individual performance opportunities in support of community and charitable causes.
Description
Plugged In is a unique nonprofit youth rock band program teaching young musicians ages 6-19 of all levels and needs about using music to create positive change in the world. In addition to weekly ensemble band classes, private lessons, summer camp, songwriting workshops and community performances, five times a year Plugged In students perform in benefit concerts that raise money for causes and organizations chosen by the students themselves. Plugged In provides a nurturing and supportive community to which young musicians feel a sense of belonging, an opportunity to express and be acknowledged for their musical interests and a chance to use their music to help others around the world. What makes Plugged In special is our commitment to including all students, regardless of their ability to pay or the costs associated with accommodating our students with special needs - what we call our Inclusion Program. In this environment of compassion and acceptance, all our students learn the power of helping others and learn to love themselves.
