Ten Thousand Villages South Bay operates a Fair Trade retail gift business to sell products made by skilled artisans around the world. By providing a market for these artisan products we are helping families and communities in developing countries grow and thrive. Under adherence to Fair Trade guidelines artisans receive a fair living wage, are provided opportunities to develop and expand skills, and provided various services by artisan cooperative groups. Ten Thousand Villages South Bay operates under a licensing and services agreement with the national non-profit Ten Thousand Villages.
Our nonprofit currently operates two brick and mortar locations (in Riviera Village in Redondo Beach and at Crafted Port of LA) as well as an online shopping website. We are seeking Volunteer Board members to complete and complement our current Board of Directors. With a focus on growth of our business Ten Thousand Villages South Bay specifically seeks individuals with career and education experience in these areas:
- Marketing
- Social Media
- Nonprofit Management
- Retail Management
- Community Relations
- Development/Fundraising
The Ten Thousand Villages Board meets one evening a month for 2 to 3 hours. Each board member is also assigned to a board committee which usually meets monthly at a time convenient to all of its members. Board members are asked to commit to a three-year term.
We are actively seeking to mirror the diversity of the artisans that we support in the makeup of our board. Membership on the Board of Directors is a meaningful way to support the cause of human rights and dignity.

Mission Statement
Ten Thousand Villages' mission is to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships.
Description
The company strives to improve the livelihood of tens of thousands of disadvantaged artisans in 38 countries. Ten Thousand Villages accomplishes this by establishing a sustainable market for handmade products in North America, and building long term buying relationships in places where skilled artisan partners lack opportunities for stable income. Product sales help pay for food, education, healthcare and housing for artisans who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed.
