ReClaim It!

Cracked Pots is a local nonprofit that focuses on waste reduction through creative reuse by hosting large community events and art gallery shows. One of their programs dedicated to curbing waste is their retail storefront, ReClaim It, where slightly worn and discarded items find a new purpose. Almost everything in our shop was gleaned from the Metro Central Transfer Station. That's right, the dump! We have saved over 650,000 lbs of waste from being added to our city's landfill. Since COVID, we have opened our doors to taking in donations from the community to continue to catch that waste before it's taken to the dump. What do we do with these items? We clean, sort, repair, upcycle and sell these salvaged materials in an effort to educate the public about the enormity of the waste stream and inspire reuse, repair, and reimagination in our community.

A few of the activities we're currently seeking volunteer help for are:

  • Repair & Upcycling Training Program - We welcome the "very skilled" to "not skilled at all!"
  • Merchandising - Reorganizing, cleaning & "staging" our storefront items for sale

  • Displays - Creating engaging window & storefront designs and signage

  • Cleaner - Cleaning, sorting and packaging newly sourced items

  • Gleaner- Being part of the team at the NW Transfer Station to pull treasures from the landfill

  • Loading/Unloading- Going from the shop to the dump in a Haul with staff and other volunteers to load the items pulled throughout the week and bring them back for repair and cleaning.

We have extremely flexible shifts, with no minimum hours required, doing a variety of tasks based on volunteer interests. As we're a growing organization, we're also very interested in any other skills and donations volunteers may be willing to bring to the table. We're always learning and growing and are so thankful for all of our talented volunteers willing to give of their time to help our cause.

Mission Statement

We use creativity to encourage our community to look at trash in a new way. We promote art to encourage waste reduction and creative reuse. Reuse is at the heart of all we do.

Description

Crackedpots is a local non-profit supporting waste reduction through creative reuse. In the past, we have hosted community events and art shows featuring artists using sustainable methods and cast-away materials. Today, you can find our unique wares at our retail storefront, ReClaim It, where we rescue items from the city dump, the community, and our neighbors to encourage inspired reimagining of slightly worn and unwanted items. Currently, we offer a Repair Training Program where volunteers learn the handy, fix-it skills needed to make a worn item useful again. Another unique program is our GLEAN Artist Residency where local artists rescue items from the city's transfer station to create gallery-worthy art. If sustainability is important to you and you've been wanting a new, creative way to help clean this earth, come join us in upcycling on your free time!
