ABOUT BRAVEN & THE PROBLEM YOU’D HELP SOLVE

Only 25% of low-income or first-generation college students graduate and attain a strong job. At the same time, local companies struggle to hire and retain local, diverse talent. Braven seeks to close this talent gap by partnering with colleges and companies to equip underrepresented young people with the skills, networks, and experiences they need to succeed professionally.

BRAVEN’S RESULTS TO DATE

To date, Braven is proud to report that 95% of their Fellows are still persisting in or completed college, and 71% of their graduates have landed a strong first job or grad school admission (compared to 49% of their peers nationally). Additionally, 99% of Leadership Coaches say the program helped them develop and practice skills that apply directly to their job performance and leadership growth, and 86% of coaches said Braven was the most rewarding volunteer experience they’ve ever had. • Facilitate weekly, 2-hour experiential learning sessions
  • Sharpen their own leadership, facilitation, and management skills

  • Give feedback and coach students 1:1

Braven provides all content and curriculum and trains and supports Coaches throughout the experience.

Mission Statement

Braven empowers promising underrepresented young people -- first-generation college students, students on Pell grants and/or from low-income communities, and students of color -- on their path to college graduation and strong first jobs, which lead to meaningful careers and lives of impact.

Description

Braven empowers promising young people on their path to college graduation and strong first jobs. We believe that our next generation of leaders will emerge from everywhere, so we take a particular interest in ensuring our talent network is filled with people from underrepresented backgrounds. To do so, Braven partners with educational institutions, volunteer professionals, and employers to offer a rigorous and relevant career readiness course, that is followed by robust campus-based alumni programming. The course is targeted as a part of the sophomore or transfer junior experience.

The Braven Accelerator is a rigorous course that builds Fellows’ leadership mindsets and confidence while they build, practice, and apply hard and soft skills. Fellows, with the guidance of their volunteer Leadership Coach and cohort of 5-7 peers, build a personalized roadmap towards success and the self-motivation to realize their vision. After the course, Fellows receive specialized engagements, such as networking events and connections to career-accelerating experiences, through which they continue to build a strong network and access critical information and experiences to support their career trajectory.
