Skills

A strong candidate for a Grants and Foundations Volunteer will have the following qualities:

  • Background in grant writing, professional writing, and/or technical writing
  • Accredited degree or certificate in Communications, English, or related field
  • Experience with prospect research tools
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Understanding of confidentiality surrounding constituent and financial information
  • Commitment to the Arthritis Foundation’s mission and programs

Given the focus of this position, potential volunteers will need to complete an interview with the Grants and Foundations Manager and may be asked to provide a writing sample. Potential volunteers may also be asked to complete a quiz following the interview and training materials to ensure a strong fit in the position.

Responsibilities

Foundations and Grants Volunteers will assist the following activities on behalf of the Arthritis Foundation:

  • Complete all training as required by Arthritis Foundation
  • Work with Arthritis Foundation staff to understand funding priorities, organization mission and other relevant information
  • Communicate directly with their assigned Point of Contact regarding potential funding opportunities
  • Research potential foundation funders using subscriptions services provided by the Arthritis Foundation
  • Talk to funders as appropriate to clarify questions, funding priorities or their alignment with Arthritis Foundation focus areas
  • Prepare Letters of Introduction, Letters of Intent, proposals and/or applications for review and submission by Arthritis Foundation staff
  • Prepare thank you letters for review and submission by Arthritis Foundation staff
