English 1 on 1's event planners work in the Event Committee to plan English 1 on 1's events and fundraisers. Events/fundraisers will take place once every two or three months, but preparation for events could take up to two months. Volunteers are required to attend monthly committee meetings as well. Previous event planning experience is encouraged, but not required.
English 1 on 1 strives to break the language barrier for refugees and immigrants. To do this, we we teach English. We teach our students how to communicate with those around them by giving them the most important tool: language. We teach our students how to succeed in the workforce by giving them a key communication tool. We want our students to show others who they are, what they stand for. The only way to do this is by teaching English and introducing our students to a brand new culture.
Through English 1 on 1, we provide individualized learning for each of our students. We do this through an online learning environment that strives to help our students feel confident and successful in daily conversational English. Our online lessons are free and effective, incorporating key vocabulary and lessons adjusted to each students' individual needs. Our online curriculum covers a variety of general and specific vocabulary (i.e. house, grocery store, outdoors).
