Event Description:
Join staff in removing invasive non-native plant species (Bamboo or Privet) from Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve.
Volunteer Duties:
Work will involve cutting and dragging invasive trees and shrubs. Volunteers will use tools such as handsaws and loppers to cut down invasive plants. Volunteers under the age of 16 will not be able to use hand tools to cut away invasive plants, but will be able to help drag them out and pile them up.
Volunteer Impact:
Invasive species out-compete the native plants that our animals rely on for food and shelter. By removing these problem plants we are giving our native species a chance to grow.
Work Environment:
We will be working in the woods on uneven terrain. There may be contact with snakes and bugs. The farthest that we will be from a restroom facility will be 0.50 mile. The work that we are doing will be physically demanding.
Volunteer Requirements:
Pre-registration is required. Adults must register and accompany children.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Adults must register and accompany children under the age of 16. Everyone who volunteers must sign a release form. If anyone is under the age of 18, then a parent or guardian must sign their form as well.
Other Instructions:
Please bring a water bottle, wear sturdy close-toed shoes and clothing you can get dirty. We will supply the tools and work-gloves.

Volunteers and staff must follow the COVID-19 policies below so that projects are safe for everyone.
