VIDEO CONTENT CURATOR FOR A DAY AT HERITAGE POINTE!

While everyone is social distancing and can’t get together for most group activities, here is a cool way to get involved with a most vulnerable population in Orange County-seniors.

Heritage Pointe has an in-house closed-circuit TV channel that goes to every Resident apartment. The TV Channel broadcasts video playlists from YouTube.com. Each volunteer gets a 2 hour block of time on this channel to show videos tied to a theme. Suggested themes: favorite holiday, a favorite hobby, nature/animals, hero/heroine or historical figure. You will find out your "broadcast date" AFTER your project is submitted.

Here’s the fun part:

The volunteer researches to find a series of online videos that relate to the theme (can be music, dance, a speaker, a movie clip, or anything that ties to the theme). It must be appropriate for the audience (would your Grandma watch it?). Keep track of each video chosen either by making a playlist on YouTube or copying the link on a word document or on paper. Most playlists are 10-18 videos.

Each volunteer can make their own short intro video and post it either to their own YouTube Channel or on Heritage Pointe’s channel (Heritage Pointe Online). We’ll include it in the final "playlist" for Residents. Here’s the time to shine! The volunteer can:

• Introduce themselves (first name only), and tell the theme of the day.
• An informal explanation of why this theme was chosen, and how it relates to the volunteer. What did you learn along the way?
• If an personal video is not an option, the volunteer can create a 1-page flyer and/or show program introducing themselves, their interests, and why this theme was chosen/personal significance, etc. Be creative! Show us photos of your pets, your family, your favorite sports team, or favorite school subject! Heritage Pointe will make a copy for each Resident to have during your special day of broadcasting.

Heritage Pointe will "stitch" together the volunteer-made video as well as the playlist and broadcast it to all Residents on the assigned day. Heritage Pointe will give community service/volunteer hours if requested. To learn more about Heritage Pointe, visit www.HeritagePointe.org.
