Thank you for your interest in becoming a tutor or mentor for Mokie Academy! Are you looking to make a difference in your community? Do you want to positively impact our youth? We value your time and support and want you to get as much from this experience as those you will be impacting.
Through tutoring and mentoring you have the opportunity to really make a difference in a child's life by providing the guidance, emotional and academic support, encouragement, and tools our children need to independently succeed in school and in life.
We are looking for volunteers who are self-starters, have access to internet to hold online tutoring classes, and who have experience working with youth or those from underserved areas.
Tutoring and mentorship will be open to students grades K-12.
Hours are flexible! Hours will be held after school but time commitment and hours will be set by you.

Tutoring will be virtual, you will control the lesson content based on the need of the children, and will tutor anywhere from 1-10 children at a time. Tutoring will include reading, writing, and math or grade equivalent of those subjects.

Mentoring will be virtual and one on one. This should be a safe place for the child to discuss anything he/she wishes to without judgement. Children will come from underserved areas and have many different experiences. Mentor should understand confidentiality practices and not disclose issues to parents unless self-harm or harm to others is suspected.

To help children reach their full potentials by bringing them opportunities to which they would otherwise not have access.

Description

Our goal is to provide learning and entertainment to underserved youth grades K-12. Our Mobile Academy provides outdoor classrooms, weather permitting, to children as well as bounce house and other exercise and entertainment activities. Additionally, currently, with the Covid-19 pandemic, we will provide online tutoring to children to assist them in the main subjects in school to ensure success.
