Job Summary

ADC is a start-up non-profit seeking to improve public service delivery for communities living in poverty in Kenya. Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Operations, you will take ownership for thought leadership, planning and research tasksrelated toincorporating public engagementto deliver successful projects.

The right candidate will help lead a team to develop conceptual public participation frameworks and methodologiesthat can help measure the impact of existing projects as well as guide development projects in shaping their public participation strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • To build a comprehensive conceptual framework and thought leadership for public participation in development projects.
  • Co-develop with the strategy team an assessment and measurement tool for public participation/community engagement.
  • Identify the best practices in community engagement approaches.
  • Work with partner organizations in the process of developing public participation/community engagement framework to test and incorporate lessons learned.
  • Training and development of junior staff as they onboard into the team.
  • Liaise with other program and research teams to ensure alignment of key messages in research/analytical pieces and publications.
  • Align processes, resources-planning, and department goals with the overall strategy.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in community engagement and public outreach experience with low-income communities and organizations, especially in Africa
  • Knowledge of strategic management theories, frameworks and best practices
  • Strong understanding of systemic issues faced by vulnerable and at-risk communities including literacy, colonialism, inclusion, equity and social justice issues and trends in rural contexts, especially in Africa
  • Leadership and project management experience
  • Methodical capacities to synthesize, organize and communicate key findings
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively build, steward and grow relationships, negotiate partnerships, and/or manage collaborative initiatives with a broad range of actors
  • Strong understanding of systemic issues faced by vulnerable and at-risk communities including literacy, colonialism, inclusion, equity and social justice issues and trends in rural contexts, especially in Africa
  • Available to volunteer at least 7 hours a week
