Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, like everyone, had a very interesting year! But we have done all we can to adjust our practices and keep everyone safe while furthering our mission to provide safe and affordable housing to residents on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands.
Last year we hosted around 2,000 volunteers from 15 states across America that helped us build 9 new homes and complete over 100 repairs through our Critical Home Repair Program. Sadly this year we have seen an 85% decrease in volunteers due to travel restrictions, closure of our two bunkhouses here on Johns Island, as well as a general need to distance. With only 300 volunteers this entire year we are still determined to continue building and repairing homes in the area. But we could absolutely use more help!
We plan to complete 5 new homes this year and we are working as fast and safely as we can to address the MANY needed Critical Home Repairs. Our team is wearing masks, distancing, limiting tool sharing, and taking other precautions on the job site to ensure everyone's safety.

About Sea Island Habitat for Humanity
2545 Bohicket Road, Johns Island, SC 29455, US
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, the third-oldest Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the world, is an independent, nonprofit, ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that has served its community as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1978 and has provided housing for over 320 local families. We build simple, safe, decent homes for families that need a hand up, not a hand out.
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers to achieve its goals of building new homes for families in need. It takes about 2000 hours of volunteer time to build a Habitat house. We build Tuesday-Saturday, and have all the tools and instruction you need! You can also volunteer on Critical Home Repairs to help weatherize homes.
The Sea Island Habitat for Humanity ReStore is to generate funds to build Habitat homes on the sea islands of South Carolina; to recycle usable furniture, furnishings, household items, and building materials for purchase at reasonable prices; and to promote awareness of the program and work of Sea Island Habitat for Humanity.
