The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, Inc. (WVRS) is seeking members of the community to serve on its newly formed Advisory Council (Council).

The Council will provide a community perspective and share information and advice to help shape the future of the WVRS; and contribute toward WVRS’ goal of providing optimal fire-rescue services and emergency medical care.

The WVRS is a volunteer, not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation dedicated to the protection of the public’s health and safety in partnership with the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service. We provide emergency services to any person in need.

Position Details
Position Description:

The WVRS is looking for members of the community, willing to provide broad perspectives on community needs and priorities to the WVRS Board of Directors. Specifically, we are seeking individuals to offer ideas and viewpoints that are representative of the health, education, business, religious and community viewpoints that make up our response area in Montgomery County. Strong consideration shall be given to applicants with letters of recommendation from Wheaton and mid-county organizations.
Council members will be nominated by the WVRS President, and confirmed by the WVRS Board of Directors, to serve a two-year, uncompensated volunteer term.

Preferred Qualifications:
Passion and a commitment to meeting the needs of the growing community of Wheaton, Maryland and the mid-county area;
Letter(s) of recommendation from community organizations; and
Demonstrated community leadership experience.

Position Responsibilities:
Attend at least four quarterly Council meetings per year and take an active role in discussions and decision making that come before the Council.

The Mission of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad is to protect the public’s health and safety in partnership with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. We are a volunteer, not-for-profit corporation that provides emergency services to any person in need.

Description

The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad (WVRS) is a Guidestar Platinum-rated not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that protects the public’s health and safety in partnership with the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service. Last year the WVRS’ 135 EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters volunteered over 90,000 hours while responding to over 10,000 emergency calls.

The WVRS was formed in 1955, and has served the community of Wheaton and surrounding areas of Montgomery County for over 40 years.

Each member volunteers his or her own time one night a week from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. and one day every fourth weekend. The station is staffed entirely by volunteers on nights and weekends.
