ABOUT US:

The Utopia Foundation, Inc ("UF") is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to ease the pressure of financial hardship, combat the ever-growing housing crisis, and create resources that serve as a catalyst for economic advancement for individuals and communities at large in order to achieve sustainable social change. Our goal is to obtain land and develop environmentally friendly (green) 1- and 2-bedroom housing complexes for financially strained individuals and families for up to one year free of charge. Residents of Utopia will also receive free or reduced-priced groceries, job training and workshops, as well as other services during their stay. We will also assist our beneficiaries by providing professional, strategic, philanthropic financial consulting and planning services (including investing, homeowners' classes, debt payoff plans, etc.) in order to ensure recipients are prepared when their time in Utopia has come to an end.

Due to the current crisis our country is experiencing, as a result of Covid-19, we realize that the need has grown exponentially, and our goals will in turn need to expand to include helping those experiencing hardship as a result of the pandemic. It is the goal of UF to help citizens in the Miami area, and around the country, experiencing food insecurity and facing evictions.

UF is a grassroots organization currently in need of volunteers. UF is interested in adding team members who can help the organization achieve the scale necessary to accomplish our mission. As we grow, the most dedicated and impactful volunteers may be considered for full time positions in the future.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and creative thinker seeking a part-time volunteer role as Web Developer. You will be responsible for building the 'client-side’ of our web applications. You should be able to translate our company and client needs into functional and appealing interactive applications. The web developer must have at least 1 year of programming experience in the following Core tools: HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, JQuery, BootStrap, MySQL, WordPress, and Django/DjangoCMS. This person must also be able to work independently or team. The web developer must be able to handle multiple projects, reliably meet deadlines and produce fully functional web projects. A thorough understanding of user experience design is essential. Familiarity with browser capabilities, user interface requirements, cross platforming, site architecture, and web server hardware are important to this position.

ROLE:

This successful candidate will be a tech-savvy professional, who is curious about new digital technologies and aspires to combine usability with visual design. Ultimately, you should be able to create a functional and attractive digital environment for our organization, ensuring great user experience. Experience working with nonprofit organizations is a plus.

JOB DUTIES:

Develop web applications

Optimize applications for performance, usability, and security

Work with existing template

Create mockups and prototypes

Ensure high-quality graphic standards and brand consistency

ABOUT YOU:

1 or more years of experience designing, redesigning, and developing websites.

Experience with modern HTML, CSS (optimized), JavaScript, jQuery, UI/UX, Mobile, Responsive design, and Adaptive design.

WordPress theme and plugin creation, installation, optimization, and migrations.

Good project management experience

Comprehensive experience with structuring, developing, and implementing interactive corporate websites

Proven experience in installing, upgrading, and maintaining Web servers and associated operating systems

Knowledge of and direct working experience with relational database development

Familiarity with browser testing and debugging

In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development, and deployment)

Understanding of layout aesthetics

Knowledge of SEO principles

Familiarity with software like Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Illustrator or equivalent

Excellent analytical and multitasking skills

Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives

Online Reputation Management experience is an added plus

.Net, C#, and MS SQL experience is an added plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree in the field of computer science or min 1 year experience (minimum)

BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field (preferred)

Front-end development: 1 year (Required)

Web development: 1 year (Required)

Modern JavaScript, HTML and CSS: 1 years (Required)
