This is a virtual, part-time volunteer position. The Social Media Specialist Volunteer would need to create content for unPrison Project so that channels remain updated, current, active, and brand-focused.

Organization Description

unPrison Project works to build literacy, mentoring, and life skills capacity for women and girls in prisons, and helps to create bonds with the children left behind. We focus on ways to cultivate critical thinking as tools to plan, set goals, and prepare for successful life after prison, and at the same time bring public awareness about mass incarceration. To date, we have reached over 30,000 women in prison or over 10% of women who are incarcerated with education and other resources such as books and glasses. We also partner with other organizations and companies who share our mission. The communities we support need us to act and stay engaged. We are determined to do just that.

Social Media Key tasks

  • Create and design posts that can be shared across current unPrison Project channels: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter: handles listed below
  • Manage content calendar and posting schedule.
  • Make recommendations for the use of different platforms and how they integrate cohesively across unPrison Project's audiences and with unPrison Project's vision.
  • Produce analytic reports from unPrison Project's social media channels and use this data to inform strategy.
  • Work with unPrison Project staff to develop a concrete strategy that prioritizes creating speaking and funding opportunities, partnerships, and awareness building.

The goal of this volunteer role also includes:

  • Monitor all existing social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), including engagement with audiences.
  • Stay current on social media trends and best practices; make recommendations for current unPrison platforms and for additional platforms. Bring relevance and vibrancy to these platforms.
  • Track data and analytics of social media platforms and use this to inform ongoing approaches and the mission and vision of unPrison.
  • Creation and maintenance of a "best practices" list.
  • Easily see natural connections to other like-minded individuals and organizations across social media with unPrison Project platforms and content. Leverage these connections to grow UP's social media base and overall presence.

This is a good fit if you:

  • Have an interest in women and incarceration in the United States.
  • Familiarity of and curiosity with a wide range of social media platforms: Instagram, FB, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, etc.
  • Excited about social media and the capability it has to generate new opportunities, partnerships and awareness.
