Concerned about climate change, the environment, or the dramatic loss of 29% of the birds in North America over the last 50 years? Take meaningful action and join the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory Board of Directors (SFBBO)! Be part of a research-driven scientific organization that works to conserve birds, restore local habitats, facilitate citizen science, and engage the community through our student educational and outreach efforts.

The SFBBO Board of Directors is seeking a new board president who can serve as its leader. In this role you will interact closely with the Executive Director, lead the Board in its fiduciary responsibilities, strategic planning, organization, have oversight of the executive, financial and fund-raising committees.

The successful candidate will have experience in management, leadership, finance, and networking. They will also have demonstrated interest in conservation, science, or community outreach. Experience in fund-raising and/or previous experience in a nonprofit leadership role would be a plus.

Time Commitment

10+ hours per month (120+ per year includes meeting time)

Mission Statement

The San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory is a nonprofit science organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats through science and outreach, and to contributing to informed resource management decisions in the Bay Area.

Description

The Bird Observatory was founded in 1981 by a group of enthusiastic biology students from San Jose State University. We study waterbirds and landbirds of the Bay Area, and also provide bird walks and other interpretive activities for the public. We currently have 6 staff and about 900 members. Our biologists work with nearly 100 volunteers in our fieldwork.
