Fundraising Committee (2 positions)

Concerned about climate change, the environment, or the dramatic loss of 29% of the birds in North America over the last 50 years? Take meaningful action and join the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory Board of Directors! Be part of a research-driven scientific organization that works to conserve birds, restore local habitats, facilitate citizen science, and drive community outreach.

The SFBBO Board of Directors is seeking new board members who can serve as project members and leaders in the fund development team. You will work as part of a team or independently as needed on projects that include donor and volunteer nurturing, fundraising activities, outreach events, and board ambassadorship (including virtual and social media).

The qualified individual will have experience in marketing, sales, and/or promotional activities and organizational skills in a multicultural work setting. Also, s/he will be a self-starter, and will have demonstrated commitment to conservation. Having experience in successful fund-raising activities for a nonprofit or a small business is a plus.

The skills/experience we are looking for. A person who:

Has community contacts and will assist in bringing in corporate and major gift donations

Is comfortable with doing solicitations to corporations and donors

Has fundraising or sales experience

Online and in-person public speaking experience

Business Development & Sales Management

Community Outreach & relationship building

Time Commitment

7+ hours per month (80+ per year includes meeting time); be able to prioritize SFBBO in their work/life schedule.

The San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory is a nonprofit science organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats through science and outreach, and to contributing to informed resource management decisions in the Bay Area.

Description

The Bird Observatory was founded in 1981 by a group of enthusiastic biology students from San Jose State University. We study waterbirds and landbirds of the Bay Area, and also provide bird walks and other interpretive activities for the public. We currently have 6 staff and about 900 members. Our biologists work with nearly 100 volunteers in our fieldwork.
