Chapter Volunteer Director (Volunteer Role)

Organizes volunteers into roles depending on needs, interests, and abilities. Follows up with volunteers and keeps them engaged and involved.

ChickTech is a national nonprofit dedicated to retaining womxn (female-identifying, non-binary and transgender women) in the technology workforce and increasing the number of womxn pursuing technology-based careers through signature programs for K-12 students and career level adults. The overarching goal of ChickTech is to increase diversity and inclusion within the technology culture through broadening the pipeline of underrepresented populations entering careers through non-traditional pathways, and increasing retention of these populations through a supportive community focused on enhancing career, leadership, inclusion, and engagement within and beyond the workplace. By building and enhancing an intergenerational community, ChickTech is ensuring companies can find untapped talent from diverse communities across the country while also building skills and interest for future generations to excel and create a diverse tech workforce.

We are looking for a Chapter Volunteer Director for the local chapter of ChickTech. With the help of the chapter leadership team and national office, the co-lead volunteer role of the Chapter Volunteer Director is responsible for building and maintaining a large pool of volunteers for events, workshops, and general chapter needs. This includes recruiting and training volunteers, confirming all volunteers go through our background check process, working with team members to ensure they have adequate volunteers to carry out their tasks, and holding various volunteer events to encourage fun and team-building.

The perfect candidate for the Chapter Volunteer Director is a responsible and experienced people manager, has previous experience as a volunteer or working with volunteers, is detail-oriented, and has a passion for empowering womxn. They will work closely with the entire local chapter leadership team to ensure volunteer needs are met across the chapter.

Note: This is an unpaid volunteer position with options to work remotely.

Our ideal Chapter Volunteer Director candidate will have:

  • Experience with event planning and volunteer or staff management
  • Experience with either nonprofits and/or the tech field
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • The ability to work in a collaborative style and move others to action by planning, motivating, and organizing work tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that establish and maintain credibility and relationships
  • A drive to improve the experience of girls and womxn in technology

Key Chapter Volunteer Director responsibilities include:

  • Build and manage a volunteer management team for a chapter or national committee as needed to help with volunteer responsibilities
  • Interview, recruit, and coordinate with volunteers
  • Ensure volunteers participate in volunteer orientations on a regular basis
  • Confirm that all volunteers are trained and background checked as needed
  • Ensure required volunteer forms/documents/waivers are collected, properly filled out and stored
  • Plan and implement volunteer recruitment for events so they are adequately staffed with volunteers
  • Communicate with chapter and program leaders regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Follow processes and required documentation related to coordinating volunteers
  • Communicate effectiveness of volunteer processes to the national office and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
  • Answer volunteer questions as needed
  • Keep volunteers engaged and excited
  • Maintain database/spreadsheet template with volunteer information and interests
  • Work with Chapter or National Marketing team to maintain volunteer updates, acknowledgment, and recruitment needs are incorporated into local and national newsletters

The Chapter Volunteer Director will participate in an onboarding orientation and be trained on various responsibilities through the national office and local chapter. ChickTech works to provide ongoing volunteer training relevant to the different roles during monthly community calls.



Expected time commitment: 3-7 hours/week, but this may vary. We ask that all leadership team members commit to one year of being on the team if possible, although less can be negotiated! Please be honest about your time commitments, while we realize it is difficult to forecast what you may be doing four or five months out, we ask potential leadership team members to try their best to upfront with any conflicts, either work or personal. Through our programs, we build community, empower participants to see themselves as leaders, and provide networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing tech industry.

As a mostly volunteer-run non-profit, we are always searching for partners who would like to get involved through donations of expertise, volunteer time, in-kind, funding, or just by helping to get the word out.
