ORGANIZATION: AFRITHRIVE INC

AfriThrive is seeking a motivated Marketing and Communications volunteer to co-create and implement the organization’s communications strategy, grow its brand, and increase support through fundraising.

Founded in 2019, AfriThrive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to building vibrant and thriving African immigrant and minority families through increased access to culturally appropriate healthy foods, youth skills development and economic opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Co-create and implement a strategic communication and marketing plan for AfriThrive
  • Assist with researching, writing, and editing content for blogs, proposals, newsletters, technical briefs, and optimizing website content
  • Create consistent, meaningful content including writing, editing social media posts for LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc., to improve donor engagement and promote online campaigns
  • Track and analyze data on viewership, downloads, and suggest new targets for engagement
  • Manage use of Google AdWords based on impact
  • Coordinate the design of materials for special events, showcases, and new program launches (invitations, programs, postcards, signage, etc.)
  • Oversee the use of logos and other marketing assets to guarantee the corporate identity’s consistency throughout all programs and services
  • Generate, proofread, publish, and share daily content (original text, images, or videos) that builds practical connections
  • Create and edit deliverables for brand consistency (e.g. presentations, online workshop tools, etc.)
  • Moderate all user-generated content in line with the platform policies for online communities
  • Comply with copyright laws, ethical guidelines and stay up to date on best practices
  • Use analytical tools such as Google Analytics, Buffer, and Facebook Insights to monitor and evaluate the company’s social media presence and performance
  • Other special projects as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies across multiple platforms
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that are effective with a diverse range of audiences including board members, internal staff, volunteers, donors, executives, and funding partners
  • Experience with using Google AdWords for impact is a plus
  • Proficient computer skills, especially in Excel and Word; familiarity with donor database management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to establish and work collaboratively and cooperatively with the team.

AfriThrive Inc, founded in 2019, is based in Silver Spring, Maryland. We serve African immigrants and minority families. AfriThrive collaborates with local organizations and county governments to combat household hunger by providing culturally appropriate healthy foods. We provide economic opportunities through financial literacy training and coaching. We support the youths navigate the academic, social and economic life through mentorship and life skills building.
