Carolinas CARE Partnership
Dining Out For Life Event! - April 25, 2013

The goal of OPT Out is to increase collaboration between Carolinas CARE Partnership and local agencies to address opioid misuse and abuse for those we serve. Our target population is LGBTQ people ages 14-25 and people living with HIV. We are inspired to increase awareness and decrease stigma related to substance use disorders and HIV/AIDS. We focus on community engagement and opioid abuse prevention with a trauma-informed, harm reduction approach. Ultimately, OPT Out will reduce prescription drug misuse, among those we serve, through our coalition and partnerships with community stakeholders. We are working to help youth opt out of substance abuse!

Coalition Expectations:

Since this is a new Coalition, some of these items are subject to change based on COVID restrictions and such. As our Coalition grows, we can revisit these items and modify to meet the needs of our members.

-Formal Coalition meetings are the third Tuesday, every other month, at 2:00 pm. Via Zoom. Once COVID restrictions have lifted, we will plan to meet in-person (location TBD), and we will provide refreshments.

-Coalition members are expected to attend 75% of all meetings (not missing more than 3 in a calendar year). Meetings will typically last 2 hours or less. Annual commitment of 18-24 hours.

-Once the Coalition is up and running, there will be committees formed to complete certain tasks. Committees should plan to meet every two months (minimum), scheduled at the convenience of committee members, and dependent on the tasks they have at the time. Each Coalition member will be expected to join 1 committee. Annual commitment of 6-12 hours.

Coalition Responsibilities:

The Coalition has a vested interest in the success of the OPT Out Program. The tasks below may expand as the Coalition grows. If this happens, the Coalition members will be actively involved in adding any additional tasks.

-Actively engaged in setting long-term goals

-Actively engaged in setting short-term goals

-Giving feedback on organizations we may partner with

-Engaging in, and possibly facilitating, continuing education for Coalition members

-Increasing personal and/or agency awareness through distribution of coalition provided resources.
