Lotus Center is approaching our sixth anniversary. Ever since we opened we have tried, without success, to establish and maintain a consistent social media presence.

This year, 2020, we started to get some traction in our social media activities. We added a tech-savvy board member who created a blog site through which we make posts to our Facebook and Twitter sites. We also have an Instagram account, though not linked to our blog site. Here is the address of our blogsite:

https://insights.lotuscentersc.org/

We are looking for a volunteer who can help us, on an ongoing basis, to manage our social media activity. We are not looking for a volunteer to create the posts, just to make sure that our material is posted on a timely basis and, perhaps, to prompt us if there's a lull in our posting activity (i.e., let us know when a significant amount of time passes without a post).

About LOTUS CENTER OF SILVER CITY

Location:

211 W BROADWAY ST, SILVER CITY, NM 88061, US

Mission Statement

Lotus Center exists to provide a safe, serene, and sacred place where everyone is welcome to learn and practice paths that lead to growth and transformation. We accomplish this by providing high-quality classes in meditation, yoga, and other forms of mindful practice taught by qualified, committed instructors. We strengthen community and expand consciousness both by providing a gathering place that's available to everyone, and by bringing these practices of growth and self-realization to the community through our outreach and service programs.

Description

Lotus Center is a non-profit community center in downtown Silver City offering classes in meditation, yoga, and other types of mindful movement. Lotus Center welcomes people who seek to improve their health, relieve stress, and find inner-peace in a welcoming and serene place.

In addition to being a traditional non-profit yoga and meditation center, we have provide a number of community service program: Yoga for Veterans, Trauma-informed Yoga (provided for survivors of sexual assault), and Yoga in Public Schools ("YIPS").

YIPS is a project of Lotus Center that launched at the start of the 2017/18 school year. As the title suggests, the objective of this project is to bring secular yoga classes, as part of their Physical Education curriculum, to public schools in Grant County, New Mexico. To date, Lotus Center has dispatched yoga instructors - who are paid $35 per hour-long class - to teach students at seven different Grant County public schools and one Montessori school.

Yoga is an extremely effective and valuable means of promoting physical and emotional well-being for everyone, including young people. And it is because young people are in the heart of their formative years, that Lotus has made YIPS our primary community service campaign.
