Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center aims to provide educational opportunities for children, families, and adults alike to connect with nature. Our programs at Prescott Farm use the 3+ miles of trails on 160 acres of property to teach people all about nature; from identifying wildflowers with adults to engaging campers in various activities throughout the property and on the trails.

Our trail adoptees commit to walking their trail and completing simple trail maintenance tasks at least once a month. This opportunity is great for avid hikers looking to learn more about basic trail maintenance, families looking for a fun outdoor activity, or organizations looking to connect and make an impact in the community. After an hour training session to learn about basic trail maintenance protocols volunteers head out on their trail to complete the following tasks:

  1. Corridor management - keep plants from encroaching on the trail by trimming back vegetation
  2. Observing trail blazes to ensure they are visible and accurate
  3. Removal of small hazards like branches, twigs, and litter
  4. Identifying large down trees and widowmakers to be removed by maintenance staff

In addition to caring for your adopted trail, Skills Days are special projects available to trail adoptees to learn more advanced trail maintenance techniques with the guidance of staff. These optional special projects include but are not limited to; building and placing nesting boxes for native birds, building trail bridges or stairs, and creating drainage ditches for trails.

*Please note all volunteers age 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult
