Prescott Farm is committed to providing opportunities through our preschool, camp, and community connection programs to connect with the natural world around us. The three gardens at Prescott Farm give participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities to learn how their food is grown and harvested into what we see at the grocery stores today, all produce grown in the gardens goes back into our educational programs to benefit the local community.
- Heritage Garden: grows food for educational tasting, cooking, and nutrition programs
- Learning Garden: program participants use this garden as an opportunity to experience gardening and make personal contact with the time-honored tradition
- Perrenial Garden: large flower garden for visitors to enjoy and connect with nature
Our garden volunteer program is set up to best accommodate the needs of our volunteers while helping to best maintain the gardens at Prescott Farm. Our "Garden Days" volunteer groups meet at various times throughout the week to ensure all the gardens are cared for. There are various volunteer opportunities that we match volunteers with based on their skills, interests, and commitment level.
- "Garden Days" members: individuals or small groups looking to gain gardening experience, connect with their community, and help care for the gardens that support Prescott Farm programs. Some basic tasks include planting, thinning, pruning, building support frames for plants, raking leaves, watering, harvesting, canning, dehydrating, treating insect problems, and turning compost.
- Lead gardeners: individuals with gardening experience looking to gain leadership skills; manage a "Garden Days" group by maintaining email communication with members, leading the group in weekly/biweekly garden care tasks, and lead educational garden opportunities for volunteers.
- One-time events: individuals or groups looking for short-term and high-impact activities in the gardens; including seed starting, transplanting seeds, and prepping the gardens for winter.
*Please note that volunteers age 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult
