We are looking for an energetic and experienced Baker/Chef with a passion for working with young children to facilitate virtual classes. The Baking Instructor will direct students on how to create tasty treats while learning about food safety practices and the function of various kitchen appliances. The instructor will prepare students to create an art piece and speak to it as part of a virtual showcase at the close of the semester.
Volunteer Duties:
Conduct virtual classes for a group young adults and teens once or twice a week
Must draft a full curriculum that outlines all lessons from week-to-week and materials needed to perform projects.
Teach students on basic baking and culinary skills to students.
Engage students during the class and teach them simple recipes for cookies, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, etc.
Effectively draft and communicate clear instructions during the class for a safe baking experience for the students.
Complete weekly session notes following each class
Regularly communicate with parents to provide updates on their child’s progress, reminders about upcoming sessions, materials list for individual sessions, and other communications as needed.
Maintain consistent communication with program directors via email and participation in scheduled facilitator meetings to update on student progress, class attendance, etc.
Volunteer Requirements:
Prior experience in teaching Baking/Cooking
Prior experience working with children is preferred
Strong interpersonal & communication skills
Comfortable working in a virtual environment
Must be 18+ years old
Location: Remote
Hours of work and duration of commitment: Must be available 5 hours per week (Monday - Friday) between the hours of 2pm and 6pm EST. Minimum 3 month commitment from January through March 2021.
