We are looking for an energetic and experienced Photography instructor with a passion for working with children at the middle and high school levels. The selected volunteer will facilitate virtual classes teaching youth how to shoot photos of portraits, nature, and life in action using mobile devices (i.e. cell phones and tablets). The instructor will direct students on how to create a digital portfolio of their work and prepare them to present and speak to one photography piece as part of a virtual showcase at the close of the semester.
Volunteer Duties:
Conduct virtual classes for a group teens once or twice per week for our winter semester (January-March 2021).
Must draft a full curriculum that outlines all lessons from week-to-week and materials needed to perform projects.
Teach students the fundamentals of digital photography on framing, lighting exposure, basics of photo shooting, black & white photography, digital image editing and finished photo evaluation.
Demonstrate the working knowledge of camera/cell phone use, photography and editing tools.
Prepare students for a virtual showcase performance in March 2021.
Complete weekly session notes following each class
Regularly communicate with parents to provide updates on their child’s progress, reminders about upcoming sessions, materials list for individual sessions, and other communications as needed.
Maintain consistent communication with program directors via email and participation in scheduled facilitator meetings to update on student progress, class attendance, etc.
Volunteer Requirements:
Prior experience in digital photography
Prior experience working with teens and young children preferred
Strong interpersonal & communication skills
A degree or certification in Photography is a plus but not required
Must be 18+ years old
Location: Remote
Hours of work and duration of commitment: Must be available 5 hours per week (Monday - Friday) between the hours of 2pm and 6pm EST. Minimum 3 month commitment from January through March 2021.
