We’re a nonprofit social welfare organization aiming to achieve equality for the LGBTQIA community in
education and healthcare. Currently, many gay and bisexual men aren’t allowed to donate blood, and our nation’s public-school system still routinely undervalues or even ignores issues regarding the community, whether it’s history or family life education. Our organization is lobbying policymakers and educating the public on these issues, and we are asking for help from people like you. If you’ve got a tight schedule, you may consider donating instead!

In this position, the ideal candidate will use their commitment to LGBTQ+ social justice to:

  • Hold President-elect Joe Biden accountable to his campaign promises, specifically to the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Track, analyze, and document legislative bills pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community as it moves through the legislative process within the U.S.
  • Articulate goals and objectives to facilitate amicable working relationships with legislators and other representatives.
  • Remotely train and supervise a team of volunteers in completing delegated assignments.
  • Organize and prepare data for future reference using Google Suite applications.
  • Prepare written analyses of legislation to petition lawmakers to consider the policy needs of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Make and utilize contacts within the Biden/Harris administration to advance our agenda.
  • Ensure media outlets are relying upon our accountability tracker to gain respectability and visibility.
  • Collaborate specifically with the Campaigns department to develop and implement creative ideas that fulfill Homoglobin’s mission.
  • Support other department directors by coordinating and organizing multi-channel projects.
  • Assist in shaping public policy in a way that advances Homoglobin’s agenda.
  • Represent the Political Team during virtual meetings.
  • Promptly draft correspondence to internal and external sources.
  • Complete special projects as needed.

Mission Statement

The FDA says sexually active men who have sex with men (MSM)--along with anyone who has sex with MSM--must abstain from sex for 3 months in order to donate blood. This is essentially a blanket ban on all gay, bisexual, and queer people with penises, which doesn’t take into account the fact that the LGBTQ+ community is comprised of millions of wildly different people, each with their own sexual practices. Changing this policy is just one of many steps our country and government must take in order to combat stigma and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, and we here at Homoglobin are fighting for that change.
