Do you enjoy helping others? Do you get excited about using technology in your everyday life? Is your enthusiasm contagious? COCD is seeking part-time trainers to work remotely (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc.) with Adult Learners with low literacy skills. These Adult Learners need to learn how to use low and high tech software and devices to overcome limitations in the usage of technology so that they can learn English online or reduce limitations in the workplace and at school. The ideal candidate will enjoy helping people and be able to train and teach a variety of individuals of various abilities. If you like motivating people, teaching, and technology, you will find this work very rewarding. Position Details: The Trainer would work with individuals from a wide range of employment and educational backgrounds. It would be your job to help individuals learn how to use technology to prepare them for employment, succeed in college, return to work, or improve their workplace skills to stay employed. The Trainer provides services that have a substantial impact on the quality of life for the individuals served. Trainers may set their own schedule with the individual with whom the Trainer is working, provided the schedule mutually works for the individual, and meets minimal expectations. Job Requirements:

  • Basic troubleshooting skills on PC, iPhone/iPad, and Android devices
  • Moderate experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Interest in working with individuals with low literacy skills or limited English skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Social Services, Education, or Information Technology

Mission: Cross Over Community Development is a resource center for immigrants and underserved community that provide educational services and employment opportunities in the greater Dayton area.

Description

Cross Over Community Development is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting immigrants and refugees in re-establishing high-quality lives for themselves and fully participating in the life of their new community.

Background

Cross Over was named after the idea that African immigrants and refugees cross from areas of absolute poverty and come to the US with the hope of accessing opportunities, create wealth and escape poverty. Unfortunately, they find upon arrival here barriers after barriers mostly linked to their lack of functional skills, cultural awareness, appropriate education, transferable job skills as well as social connections and they get stuck with the first survival job they get upon arrival here, unable to move to the next level, many become underemployed and end up assimilating in the underclass which prevents them from realizing their dream of creating money, prosperity, and success.

It is against this backdrop that volunteers who have been involved with new immigrants’ issues formed a nonprofit called "Cross Over Community Development" intended to empower them with employment skills and job creations so that they can improve their quality of life and self-sufficiency. Our outreach programs to break the generational poverty will target both immigrants and underserved communities.
