Shopper Assistant

Everyone should have access to healthy food. Second Harvest has 2 "Shopping" areas were we provide food to our Agency Partners, amazing non-profit organizations working us to end hunger in our community.
We need you to help us in our mission to ensure that anyone who needs a healthy meal can get one.

Shopper Assistants are needed at Second Harvest, in our San Carlos warehouse (1051 Bing Street, San Carlos, CA).


The Shopper Assistant is responsible for:

  • Assist shoppers from our partner agencies in shopping area, by indicating them where the products they need are, helping them to weigh and to properly register their purchases
  • Help to maintain a well-stocked shopping area, keeping food organized and accessible
  • Promote safety protocols, for food and for visitors, in shopping area and warehouse

This volunteer opportunity might be for you if:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You can make a commitment of at least 1 months
  • You can perform with a high standard of customer service, professional conduct and responsibility
  • You are friendly, patient and eager to work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • You are able lift 30 pounds

Helpful background skills:

  • Experience working with low-income families and individuals
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish/Chinese

Training will be provided on the first day.

Weekly time commitment: 3, 6, 9 or 12 hours.

Days and times volunteers are needed: Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. You choose your hours!

Volunteers can choose one or several days, and the hours that work better for them!!

    Choose one or several days Monday-Friday for 3, 6, 9 or 12 hours weekly per volunteer choice

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone.
