Our foster program is designed to help give dogs who come to Safe Place a temporary situation while they await a new home, and to help cats who aren’t a good fit for our shelter environment. In a loving foster home, every pet can get the individual attention he or she needs to help them find a forever family.
Foster homes are asked to provide daily care for the pets, transportation to and from veterinary appointments (as needed), as well as help supplying valuable insight into what home would be best for the fostered pet.
Fostering is important and valued work, and it is a very rewarding experience. By being a foster, you are playing a crucial role in the mission of serving terminally ill people and their pets.
What do foster families need to provide?
We ask that all foster families provide:
- A healthy and safe environment for their foster pets.
- Transportation to and from vet appointments as needed.
- Daily care for their foster pet (refer to the "Daily Care" section below).
- Regular updates to the Safe Place team regarding the pet’s progress, personality, and health. Your feedback as a foster helps us find the best possible home for our pets.
- Flexibility when we are scheduling a Meet and Greet with a potential adopter.
