SIGHN UP TO BE A VIRTUAL TUTOR WITH FLOC TODAY!

DURING THESE TIMES OF CLOSURE FOR COVID-19, FLOC WILL BE COMPLETELY VIRTUAL FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

At For Love of Children, tutors are the nucleus of our programs, serving as direct educational and emotional support for our students. Tutors work one-on-one with students in reading and/or math, going above and beyond traditional approaches. Tutors guide students through a structured and user-friendly curriculum at an individualized pace. Tutors help ensure each student builds fundamental skills while gaining confidence in their academic abilities.

As a tutor you will:

  • Build a relationship with your student
  • Work one-on-one with a student each week for two hour sessions
  • Help your student make strides in math or reading through our curriculum

We provide all training and tools necessary for you and your student to succeed! Our curriculum is research-proven, robust, and user friendly. Sign up for as many time slots as you;d like; we have slots available Monday - Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm or 6:00-8:00pm (Eastern Time). Tutors from all 50 US states are welcome to apply!

Mission Statement

For Love of Children (FLOC) provides educational services beyond the classroom to help students succeed from first grade through college and career. We bring together students, volunteers, families, and community partners in proven programs that teach, empower, and transform.

Description

Here in our nation’s capital, barely half of DCPS youth graduate from high school. That shocking statistic only leads to more sobering numbers. According to the DC Alliance for Youth Advocates, there are over 14,000 young people in the District neither enrolled in school nor employed, and less than 42% of 20-24 year olds in DC have fulltime employment.

Everyday, FLOC is changing that statistic by providing opportunities for students to succeed in school, aspire to earn a postsecondary degree, and become contributing members of their communities. Unlike many other youth-serving programs, we provide a continuum of support that guides our students from first grade through completion of a postsecondary degree. Through our Neighborhood Tutoring Program, we intervene early to make sure that students do not fall further behind in reading or math. Building on those academic skills, our Scholars Program exposes our students to experiences, information and activities that build persistence skills to help them progress through their educational journey and into a chosen career.
