Purpose:

The purpose of the onboarding & training team member is to assist Biomedical Services Volunteer Engagement by providing onboarding and training support. The purpose of onboarding is to initiate a Biomedical relationship and engage the volunteer by providing assignments matching their motivation and interests, while filling Biomedical open positions and meeting service delivery demands. The Onboarding and Training team will ensure that all candidates are interviewed, placed in a position, receive department overview, are introduced to their supervisor, and are assigned their training. The team member will also help to schedule, inform and follow-up on training sessions and assist with instructor management.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the onboarding process with the Biomedical Workforce Volunteer Engagement Team. Activities can include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of Opportunity Queue:
    • Review new applicants from Volunteer Services, update and maintain Volunteer Connection database
    • Interview applicants
    • Place new applicants into positions, assign supervisors
    • Conduct department introduction and overview
    • Provide support to new volunteers
  • Provide feedback to Onboarding and Training Lead on the process

Assist in executing training functions with the Biomedical Workforce Volunteer Engagement Team. Activities can include, but are not limited to:

  • Create, update and complete trainings in online management system
    • Utilize EDGE (Learning Management System) platform to perform training functions
    • Assist with setting up and planning training activities
    • Assist volunteers with training questions
  • Ensure completion of all assigned tasks
  • Management of training reports
  • Make initial call to schedule first shift

Time Commitment:

At least 3 hours / week

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiastic about Red Cross mission and programs, required
  • Cultural sensitivity to diverse audiences, required
  • Knowledge and understanding of Red Cross services and operations and opportunities for volunteer service, preferred
  • Work well both individually and with others, required
  • Comfortable using a computer, phone and access to internet at home, required
  • Basic Microsoft excel and word experience, required
  • Relationship building skills working collaboratively with staff/volunteer partners, required
  • Experience in interviewing and onboarding employees or volunteers, preferred
  • Experience in providing orientation or introductory trainings, preferred
  • Experience planning and setting up training activities, required
  • Experience using learning management systems to manage and track trainings, preferred

Training Requirements:

  • Onboarding with Blood Services Onboarding & Training Lead, Biomedical Engagement Rep and/or Supervisor
  • Biomedical Volunteer Workforce Engagement Virtual Training

Length of Appointment:

One year appointment, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance in position.
