Girls on the Run (3rd-5th) or Heart & Sole (6th-8th) Coaches are the heart of our program and have an immense impact on the girls on their virtual team. Coaches act as a team to lead a group of 6-12 girls through our VIRTUAL life skills curriculum for the 8-week season.
Coaches are expected to attend practices for the entirety of the program starting the week of March 29ththrough the week of May 24th, 2021. The end of season virtual 5K will take place Saturday, May 22nd, 2021. There will be one observed week of Spring Break - exact date of Spring Break is dependent on team and will be announced closer to the start of the season. Practices typically are in the evening (4=5pm, 5-6pm, or 6-7pm) and are twice a week.
Coachesdo nothave to be "runners"; they only need to have the desire to serve as role models for the girls by engaging with girls during practicing, encouraging girls throughout the lessons and workouts, leading a healthy lifestyle and maintaining positive attitudes. Our virtual curriculum is conducted over Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or another similar platform. Physical activity is incorporated during the virtual lesson and then participants are encouraged to run or walk at home after the virtual lesson is over. The curriculum is completely developed so therefore, coaches will not be creating their own content but will be facilitators of our research-based curriculum.
Coaches are volunteers and unpaid. Coaches can be anyone in the community and no experience is necessary. Anyone can be a great GOTR coach! We encourage individuals of any gender, race, ethnicity, and background to join us for our transformative program.
