We are looking for a competent Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and manage volunteers. You will be responsible for allocating responsibilities and retaining the best people.

You might know how to distinguish talent and do everything possible to motivate and inspire. You could possess excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experience.

The goal is to ensure that our organization is always staffed with the best and most reliable individuals, and that they are correctly utilized for the fulfilment of our mission.

as a volunteer coordinator, you'll manage all elements of volunteering on behalf of Agri Planet Uganda.

The role involves assessing and meeting the organisation's needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers.

You'll manage volunteers and the relationships with those they come into contact with, you'll also monitor, evaluate and accredit volunteers.

roles and responsibilities

  • Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
  • be responsible for our database of volunteers and volunteer opportunities
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising new volunteers.
  • Collecting volunteer information, availability, and skills, and maintaining an up-to-date database.
  • Using marketing tools such as outreach programs, e-mails, and volunteer databases.
  • Keeping new and existing volunteers informed about the organization and volunteer opportunities.
  • Matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skill sets, and ensuring they understand their responsibilities and receive the proper training.
  • Organizing training and leading on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate teams of volunteers for large-scale actions
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
  • Keeping schedules and records of volunteers' work.
  • Preparing codes of conduct and operating procedures to uphold the organization's values.
  • Ensuring the organization's purpose is coveyed to the public.
  • Track volunteers work
  • Evaluate volunteers work
  • Give constructive feedback
  • research and write volunteer policies and procedures, including risk assessments
  • liaise with departments within your own organisation or with organisations for which you're recruiting volunteers (e.g. charities and councils) to understand how they work, develop partnerships and assess their needs
  • generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organisation
  • raise staff awareness of the role and the function of volunteers
our volunteer coordinator and manager will work hand in hand with other Agri Planet Uganda team members to ensure that their tasks are executed.

You'll need to have or be willing to develop:

  • excellent communication skills
  • strong interpersonal skills, to deal with a diverse range of people
  • experience of managing or coordinating projects and volunteers
  • an empathy with volunteers and an understanding of their needs
  • the capacity to inspire and motivate others
  • the ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
  • good organisational skills and the ability to manage a variety of taskss
  • a flexible and non-judgemental approach to people and work.
  • Working knowledge of databases and MS Office or general computer usage is paramount
  • Team player
  • Good time-management skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills

An understanding of volunteering and commitment to the organisation. Empathy and creatively thinking are a huge requirement for this position.

  • should you ever want to travel to Uganda, we can write an invitation letter for you and as well host you while here.(Related costs will be covered by the volunteer themselves)
