At Unlocking Futures, we know that education reduces the likelihood of a youth entering into the criminal justice system. That is why we are committed to helping youth in our community this school year by offering virtual tutoring services in reading and math for youth in grades K-8th.

Tutors would commit at least 3-5 hours per week. This is a flexible position. Tutors could set their own hours weekday evenings or weekends. Tutors would be assigned 5 youth to work with from Jan-May 2021.

This is a Great opportunity for:

1. College students
2. High School Students looking to earn community service hours
3. Professionals looking to give back to their communities
4. Stay at home parents
5. Retirees

As a tutor you would help students struggling in reading and math, augment the topic discussions in one-on-one or group sessions via Zoom, and provide feedback to students so that they may improve their fundamental understanding of the material.

We will work with your schedule! Please contact us with your interest in tutoring students in either math, reading, or both subjects, your grade preference, availability in Eastern Standard time, and your level of education.

We seek to empower youths and families by improving release outcomes, reducing recidivism rates and assisting families in finding the resources necessary to thrive in their communities.

Description

Unlocking Futures is a nonprofit geared towards helping families who have been impacted by incarceration. The idea for the organization came about as a result of the founder's own experience with raising a child with an incarcerated parent and while doing so, she lacked a support system. Her and her child experienced many hardships and found that there were not any community agencies providing support to families after their loved one became incarcerated. So, she founded Unlocking Futures.

Unlocking Futures provides parenting classes, academic tutoring, and a social and emotional program. The parenting program utilizes an evidenced-based curriculum to help youth and adults develop healthy communication skills while also teaching drug and alcohol prevention as well.
