Yellow Text

OPERA NOVA is ready to combat COVID-19 and we will do it best with more volunteers! AARP recommends listening to music to combat isolation and anxiety. And didn’t Kofi Anann say that "In a world of diversity where often values clash, music leaps across language barriers and unites people of quite different cultural backgrounds. And so, through music, all peoples can come together to make the world a more harmonious place." We are seeking volunteers who have skills like creative writing and volunteers who just want to help bring a touch of joy, happiness, serenity to as many as we can. Join Opera NOVA by volunteering to do your part to boot COVID-19 out of our home town. Please contact Emily at (703) 763-6249 or operanovainfo@gmail.com.

Mission Statement

Opera NOVA works to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

Description

Opera NOVA was founded in 1992 as a volunteer-based, non-profit charitable organization to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

The Guild is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has been recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) entity.

Over the years, Opera NOVA has offered major financial support for an annual family opera that is attended by school children during week day performances and by children with their families and community-based organizations on weekends. Because of our efforts, 50,000 school-aged children, many of whom would not have the opportunity otherwise, have attended an opera. The performances not only offer children a unique opportunity to hear an opera sung in English, but they also learn about various opera and theatre techniques, from special effects to the intricacies of set and lighting design.
