Houston Angels is the local chapter of a national 501c3 organization (National Angels) that supports the local foster care community. We have seen a very clear and pressing need for more support for Houston's foster families and youth, and our chapter is growing rapidly!
We are looking to expand our Board of Directors by adding people who are passionate, self-motivated, hard working and experienced in the nonprofit sector. Board members have the opportunity to help strategize our growth, connect us with other dedicated volunteers and donors, and create a community of giving. We are a working board - meaning our board members invest time, professional expertise and talent, and regularly advocate and engage their personal sphere of influence.
Responsibilities for Major Giving Board Member:
- Develop and implement a strategic plan to achieve Houston Angels’ fundraising goals and increase revenue streams through large donations and grants.
- Research, identify, cultivate and steward financial support from major donors, foundations and corporations.
- Maintain strong relationships with sponsors, partners and donors through face-to-face or virtual meetings, dinners and ongoing communications.
- Develop process for organizing and maintaining constituent records.
- Speak in public and advocate for the cause.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Grant writing experience (strongly preferred)
- Solid budget management skills
- Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in fundraising and donor relations.
- Ability to convey the chapter’s vision and strategic future to the board, volunteers, partners and donors.
- Solid budget management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills, comfortable with public speaking
Board Participation Requirements:
- Contribute 20+ hours per month to moving the mission forward
- Contribute financially to the mission as well as the Board’s Love Box Group
- Attend 10 out of 12 board meetings per year
- Attend a 2-day (virtual) Chapter Orientation with the National organization
- Must be passionate about our mission and be willing to invest time, and professional expertise and talent to grow Houston Angels
- Willing to advocate for Houston Angels to existing contacts and networks
- Willing to help support, attend and bring people to Houston Angels’ fundraising events
- Willing to communicate and collaborate with board members regularly, especially the board President and Treasurer

Houston Angels is the Houston chapter of the national nonprofit organization, National Angels, which was created to support the foster care community. Our organization's trauma-informed programs were created to heal and empower children by increasing their stability, surrounding them with healthy relationships and wrapping them in community. Our volunteers are everyday people who are matched with foster families and youth based on zip code and compatibility. We believe that the power of love and community can make a lasting difference for children in foster care.
