HELP DESIGN HISTORIC NPCs for a MINECRAFT MARCH ON WASHINGTON FOR MLK DAY 2021

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

Volunteer Dates: Based on volunteer availability from November 6th, 2020 to MLK Day, Monday, January 18th, 2021

The Event:

On Monday, January 18th, 2021, L.A. Works will host a multi-platform event for thousands of volunteers and visitors to honor the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Every year, this event encourages the L.A. community to carry on Dr. King's legacy of activism by participating service activities. This year, our day-long, choose-your-adventure mix of in-person and virtual activism will include volunteer opportunities and experiences designed to build upon the anti-racism movement.

The Minecraft Project:

On MLK Day, over 1,000 online visitors will be able to experience and interact with the historic 1963 March on Washington through the world of Minecraft. Built by skilled volunteers, guests to our Minecraft D.C. will interact with, not only historic Civil Rights leaders like MLK, himself, but also current activists as NPCs who are continuing the legacy, today. Guests will be inspired by walking through this historic landscape, meeting the present voices, and adding to this world and ours, by building within the game.

Volunteer Experience Level:

We need volunteers with art skills to help make skins for all the activists we're creating within our virtual world. Using the website minecraftskins.com/skin-editor you'll use your amazing art skill to make activists look like their real-world counterparts only in pixel form. These figures have made countless impacts on the world we now live in, and the research you will be doing can help make the digital March on Washington an invaluable experience for all.
