To create and support cutting-edge, project-based sustainability solutions in Arizona

Vision and Mission - Urban Forestry Priority

Role Purpose
The purpose of the Project Coordinator position is to design and implement tree plantings at the end of 2021 at up to seven schools in the West Mesa Heat Action project area. AZSA is part of the West Mesa Heat Action project run by Rio Reimagined. The tree plantings are one piece of a larger project to educate and engage the community in West Mesa on extreme heat and the role of shade and urban forestry. AZSA has committed to planting a minimum of 100 trees at schools within the project area. AZSA has already had initial conversations with the school district and will be starting walkthroughs of the schools in November/December 2020. While the actual tree plantings are not set to occur until the end of 2021, it will be important for AZSA to stay engaged in the larger project in order to ensure we are an active partner.

  • Knowledge of urban forestry/trees in Arizona

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week
