El Mirage Tree Planting - Project Coordinator
AZSA Mission

- Mission: Increase the tree canopy in low income, low canopy areas throughout Arizona to make our communities more resilient
Objectives - El Mirage Tree Planting Project
- To plant a minimum of 50 trees at the Thompson Ranch Elementary School and shrubs in the right of way in El Mirage
- To design and implement a successful tree planting for January 2021
Role Purpose
The purpose of the Project Coordinator position is to design and implement a tree planting in January 2021 at Thompson Ranch Elementary School utilizing the American Forests Tree Equity Score. In addition, the project coordinator will be responsible for completing the City Forest Credits Impact Certification with AZSA’s Executive Director. AZSA has already completed an initial walkthrough of the school with the principal and maintenance. AZSA is working with a landscape architect to identify which trees and shrubs should be planted in various locations on the property.
Responsibilities
- Be the point person for the El Mirage tree planting with all stakeholders
- Setup dates and logistics for tree planting (may need to be more than one day due to COVID-19) for January 2021
- Follow AZSA COVID-19 policies to ensure a safe planting
- Complete the City Forest Credits Impact Certification with AZSA’s Executive Director
- Work with the City of El Mirage on the acquisition of shrubs for the right of way
- Work with the school principal, landscape architect, school maintenance, and others to ensure the tree planting is designed for the needs of the school
- Manage tree planting budget
Ideal Skill Set
- Ability to organize events
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects
- Ability to learn new things quickly (e.g. proper tree planting techniques)
- Experience working with multiple partners
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Self-starter who is able to work independently and as a team member
- Knowledge of urban forestry/trees in Arizona
Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week
All AZSA positions are remote, with periodic fieldwork and other necessary in-person activities specific to the particular position.
